Overview

Transferring to the Duke of York's Theatre following an acclaimed season at the Hampstead Theatre, Rupert Everett and Freddie Fox star in Neil Armfield's revival of David Hare's 1998 play The Judas Kiss, a compelling drama offering a fascinating insight into Oscar Wilde’s ill-fated relationship with Lord Alfred Douglas.

It is 1895 and Irish playwright Oscar Wilde's masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest, is playing in the West End after a triumphant premiere, but already the wheels are in motion which will lead to his imprisonment, downfall and vilification. Forced to make a choice between his self-obsessed lover and his freedom, the ever romantic Wilde embarks on a course towards self-destruction…

Hare’s play focuses on two critical moments in Wilde’s last years – the eve of his arrest at the Cadogan Hotel after vowing to stay in England and a night in Naples after his release from two years imprisonment when the lover for whom he risked everything cruelly betrays him.

Please note that this production contains scenes of an adult nature.
