Andrew Lloyd Webber's hotly anticipated new production of The Wizard of Oz arrives at the London Palladium starring Michael Crawford and Danielle Hope, the winner of the hit BBC reality TV show, Over The Rainbow.
Based on the original children's novel by L. Frank Baum and inspired by the famous 1939 MGM movie starring Judy Garland, this new full length musical is a captivating adaptation of the all time classic, totally reconceived for the stage by the award-winning creative team responsible for the recent London Palladium revival of The Sound of Music.
The Wizard of Oz tells the story of 12-year old Kansas farm girl Dorothy Gale, who suddenly finds herself stranded in the Land of Oz after being knocked unconscious during a cyclone. After meeting Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, Dorothy learns that in order to return home she must travel along the yellow brick road to the mthical Emerald City to seek the help of the fearsome Wizard of Oz. On her journey, she encounters and befriends a Scarecrow wanting a brain, a Tin woodsman wanting a heart and a cowardly Lion wanting courage. Convinced that the wizard can assist them, they travel the perilous road together successfully negotiating all obstacles in their path. The only thing that stands in their way is the Wicked Witch of the West and her winged monkeys, desperate to steal Dorothy’s magic ruby slippers.
The production features some new songs specially composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as Arlen and Harburg's Oscar winning score, including the much-loved songs Over the Rainbow, We’re Off to See the Wizard, Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead and Follow the Yellow Brick Road.
Don your sparkly red shoes, click your heels together and join Dorothy and her little dog Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the cowardly Lion as they journey through Oz to meet the legendary Wizard and obtain their heart’s desires.
