Trafalgar Studios

Formerly the Whitehall Theatre, Trafalgar Studios is two new theatre studios under one roof in the heart of the London's West End.

The original theatre was designed by Edward Stone with an Art Deco interior by Marc-Henri and Laverdet. It opened in September 1930 and was built on the site of Ye Old Ship Tavern, an inn which had stood since 1650. The tavern was demolished and rebuilt on the opposite side of the road.

The theatre became famous in the 1950s and 60s for being the home of Brian Rix's Whitehall Farces. It was extensively restored in 1985 and retains many of the original Art Deco features.

Architects Tim Foster and John Muir have now created two new intimate and dynamic theatre spaces which will allow the venue to host a much wider range of entertainment than has previously been possible in commercial theatre.

The theatre is currently owned by the Ambassador Theatre Group.
