The Arts Theatre was built in 1927 to a design by P Morley Holder and started life as a members club to avoid the censorship of the Lord Chamberlain. It was the first London home of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
This unique and intimate venue regularly hosts short-running productions, one-man shows and three or four-player pieces. The theatre is small, comfortable and atmospheric, and the small stage encourages creative use of space.
The theatre is independent and is now owned by Carlo Mattiucci. Following a £250,000 refurbishment, the venue hosts not only new, innovative and revival plays and musicals, but also comedy, music, dance and other unique and original stage performances.
