The Starry Messenger Tickets
Tony Award-winning Broadway legend Matthew Broderick makes his West End debut alongside Downton Abbey star Elizabeth McGovern in Sam Yates's new production of The Starry Messenger by Kenneth Lonergan.
Inspired by Galileo’s Sidereus Nuncius, The Starry Messenger is set in New York in 1995 and follows the story of gloomy, middle-aged astronomy teacher Mark Williams who is in the midst of a mid-life crisis. The old Hayden Planetarium in Manhattan he lectures at is on the brink of closure, his marriage to Anne is on the rocks and he’s mourning the recent death of his father. He is lost.
After a chance meeting with Puerto Rican trainee nurse and single mother Angela Vasquez, his perspective on everything changes and the stars appear to have aligned. But when a catastrophic event rips through their lives, Mark is forced to re-evaluate his life, his faith and his place in the universe itself.
This bittersweet, comic drama is an unblinking exploration of the vast highs and lows of human existence, love and hope.
