Overview

Lonny Price directs the award-winning Broadway musical Man of La Mancha when it returns to London for the first time in over 50 years. Written by Mitch Leigh, Joe Darion and Dale Wasserman, the musical is inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th century novel Don Quixote and is a classic tale of knighthood, love, loyalty and adventure. It will run at the London Coliseum for six weeks only starring Kelsey Grammer alongside Australian soprano Danielle De Niese, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Cassidy Janson and Peter Polycarpou.

In a dingy 16th century dungeon, Cervantes awaits trial from the Spanish Inquisition. In his possession he has a large trunk containing the unfinished novel Don Quixote. As his fellow prisoners attempt to steal his belongings, Cervantes embarks on acting out his novel as his defence, transforming himself into the elderly Alonso Quijano.

Having read many books on chivalry, the deluded Quijano believes he is a knight errant, renames himself Don Quixote de la Mancha, and haphazardly sets off on a fantastical quest with his man servant Sancho Panza.

Set to be the theatrical event of the year, the score will be performed by the ENO’s 35-piece orchestra and features  the  iconic  song The  Impossible  Dream.

Please note this production contains some adult themes and violence which may not be suitable for children under 12.
