Following a sold out run as part of Bristol Old Vic’s 250th Anniversary season, Jeremy Irons and Lesley Manville reprise their roles in Richard Eyre’s acclaimed production of Eugene O'Neill's compelling Pulitzer prize-winning masterpiece, Long Day's Journey into Night when it opens for a strictly limited ten week run at the Wyndham's Theatre in January 2018.

Set in August 1912, the semi-autobiographical story covers one devastating summer's day from morning through to midnight at the seaside Connecticut home of the dysfunctional Tyrone family, each of whom is tormented by the past and caught up in their own extraordinary personal struggle.

65 year old James Tyrone is an alcoholic actor who has built his reputation with a single touring play but is now caught up with financial hardship. His wife, Mary, is a recovering morphine addict. Their son, Edmund, is also a womanizing alcoholic and his sibling, Jamie, has growing health problems and is angry and resentful that the family hid Mary's drug addiction from him.

Throughout the course of the day, the cycle of conflict escalates as the Tyrone's battle to expose and conceal a series of appalling truths and as day turns to night, the family drifts ever closer to the abyss. Intense and passionate, this is a unmissable family drama of the highest quality.
