Tony Award winner Rebecca Taichman's acclaimed production of Paula Vogel's 2015 play Indecent receives its UK premiere this March at the Menier Chocolate Factory starring Cory English, Beverley Klein, Finbar Lynch, Molly Osborne, Peter Polycarpou, Alexandra Silber and Joseph Timms.
Indecent explores the origins of the highly controversial 1906 play The God of Vengeance written in Yiddish by Polish-Jewish playwright Sholem Asch. Produced on Broadway in 1923, the cast of the original production was arrested on the grounds of obscenity. Accompanied by a small live Klezmer band, this deeply moving play follows the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it and examines whether the play is a seminal work of Jewish culture or an act of traitorous libel.
