A Doll's House Tickets
Jamie Lloyd directs Frank McGuinness’ radical new production of Henrik Ibsen’s classic pro-feminist drama A Doll’s House starring Golden Globe-winner Jessica Chastain making her West End debut as Nora.
First premiered in 1879, Ibsen's three-act play caused great controversy at the time for its critical portrayal of common marriage norms of the 19th-century. An intimate domestic drama which challenges conceptions of the perfect family life, the play centres on Nora Helmer, a naïve young housewife with a dark secret which she has kept hidden from her husband.
Nora seems to have it all - a successful husband who has been newly promoted, three wonderful children and a beautiful home. But as the story progresses, Nora comes to the realisation that she has been living a lie and is totally dependent on her husband Torvald. As she begins to see her position in her marriage with increasing clarity, she is forced to decide whether to remain stuck in submission to a husband who forfeits her love and respect with his gross ingratitude, or leave to find a new life for herself, thereby abandoning her children.
