Overview

Peter Reid's revival of Samuel Beckett's existentialist masterpiece Waiting For Godot returns to the Arts Theatre where its English language version originally premiered in 1955. The production will run for a limited season this September following a decade of international touring. With its sublime balance of comedy and poignancy, vaudeville and angst, Waiting For Godot is arguably one of the most significant plays of the 20th century.

On a deserted country road near a tree, two world-weary friends Vladimir and Estragon await the arrival of the mysterious and elusive Godot. They don't know whether they will recognise him or what he will do when he gets there, but they know that if he doesn't turn up, they will have to return to the same spot the next day and wait again. While passing the time, they eat, sleep, speculate, bicker, joke and ponder life's greater questions and as dusk begins to fall, two figures appear on the horizon.
