Overview

Following its critically acclaimed world premiere at Bristol Old Vic, David Greig’s electrifying adaptation of Touching The Void transfers to the West End for a limited sixteen week run at the Duke of York’s Theatre this November, directed by the award-winning Tom Morris.

Based on the best-selling memoir of climber Joe Simpson which spawned a BAFTA-winning film, this extraordinary story charts his struggle for survival after he falls and breaks his right leg on the perilous Siula Grande mountain in the Peruvian Andes in 1985. As he teeters on the brink of death and despair in a crevasse from which he can’t possibly climb to safety, his climbing partner Simon Yates is perched on an unstable snow-cliff, battered by freezing winds, suffering from severe frostbite and desperately clinging onto the rope tying him to the severely injured Joe.

Knowing that they will both ultimately face certain death, Yates makes the agonising decision to cut the rope that binds them, saving his own life and changing both of their lives forever.

Life-affirming and often darkly funny, this extraordinary true tale of human endurance takes the audience on an epic adventure that asks how far you’d be willing to go to survive when you're looking death squarely in the face.

Please note this production contains frequent strong language and depictions of injury and death and is not recommended for children under 14 years of age.
