Overview

Freely adapted from Wilkie Collin's sensational Victorian thriller, Thom Southerland's haunting new adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Woman In White runs for a strictly limited 12 week season at the Charing Cross Theatre this November.

Dashing young Walter Hartright has secured himself employment as an art tutor to two young women, Marian Halcombe and her half-sister Laura Fairlie, who is heir to Limmeridge House and the surrounding estate. Stranded at a remote railway cutting in London one evening en route to his new position, Walter has a chance encounter with a mysterious woman dressed all in white, seemingly fleeing from someone and desperate to reveal a chilling secret.

A love triangle develops as Walter and Laura quickly fall in love but Marian also falls for Walter and those feelings are not reciprocated. Walter and Laura’s romance is thwarted by her engagement to the sinister and conniving Sir Percival Glyde who has designs on Laura's inheritance. The trio soon find themselves the victims of a seemingly flawless crime, trapped in a web of betrayal and greed. As the compelling plot twists and turns, low villainy vies with high romance within a world of subterfuge and deceit and together the three of them need all their resourcefulness and courage to outwit the charismatic and ingenious villain.

A tempestuous tale of love, betrayal and greed, this is the premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippel’s revised score.
