Overview

Following a sell out run at the Kiln Theatre, Michael Longhurst's production of French writer Florian Zeller's compelling play The Son transfers to the Duke of York’s theatre for ten weeks only this August. Forming the final part of the critically acclaimed trilogy with The Father and The Mother, The Son is a moving and insightful exploration of the pain and turbulence of depression and mental illness.

Parisian teenager Nicolas is struggling to cope in the aftermath of his parents’ divorce. He’s disruptive and unpredictable, lying, skipping school and self-harming and his mother Anne can no longer cope. Nicolas decides to make a fresh start at a different school and move in with his father Pierre, his new partner Sofia and their baby son. But it's not long before he starts to feel uncomfortable and unwanted and decides that going back to his mother's may be the answer. When change feels like the only way to survive, what will Nicolas do when his options begin to run out?
