Overview

Sean Foley directs a major revival of Academy award winning author Sir Ronald Harwood's renowned comedy drama The Dresser, starring Ken Stott and Reece Shearsmith.

A hilarious and moving portrait of backstage life, the comic masterpiece explores the relationship between two men who are reluctantly and inevitably co-dependent. Set in a provincial English theatre as World War II rages, an ageing actor, known to his loyal acting company as Sir, is struggling to keep a grip on his sanity and complete his 227th performance of King Lear.

Despite most of the country's actors being in uniform in wartorn Britain and bombs destroying theatres, the show must go on. Ensuring that it does is Norman, Sir's faithful and devoted dresser, who for sixteen years has been there to fix his wig, massage his ego, remind him of his opening lines and provide the sound effects in the storm scene. It falls to Norman once again to keep both the show and its star from falling apart.
