Overview

Jonathan Miller’s classic production of Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème returns to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the director’s ENO debut.

No opera can equal the captivating romance and heartfelt tragedy of Puccini’s La Bohème. With a love story drawn from everyday life and an emotionally charged score, the depiction of bohemian Paris has captivated audiences around the world, making it one of the most popular and best loved of all operas.

When young penniless poet Rodolfo meets seamstress Mimì, it’s love at first sight. But their happiness is threatened when Rodolfo learns that Mimì is gravely ill. Faced by the cruel realities of poverty and ill health and painfully aware that he cannot afford the medicine and care Mimì needs, will the flame that burns between them flicker and die?

Conducted by Alexander Joel, Puccini‘s moving score follows Mimì and Rodolfo’s love unfolding from it’s joyful beginnings to the heartbreak of her death.

This production is sung in English with surtitles projected above the stage.
