Following a sell-out run at Shakespeare’s Globe, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s spirited new play about Elizabethan poet Emilia Bassano Lanier transfers to the West End's Vaudeville Theatre from March for a strictly limited run.
Directed by Nicole Charles and featuring an all-female cast, Emilia celebrates women’s voices through the story of this trailblazing, forgotten woman who was long believed to be Shakespeare's muse.
Set over 400 years ago in the early 1600s, writer Emilia has been left in the shadow of Shakespeare and Marlowe, her voice unheard. Now she is finally the protagonist of her own story. Three actresses share the role of Emilia, each embodying a different stage of her long life and reaching out to us across the centuries with passion, fury, laughter and song.
