Overview

Following an acclaimed run at the Young Vic Theatre in May this year, Marianne Elliott and Miranda Cromwell's superb revival of Arthur Miller's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece Death of a Salesman transfers to the West End's Piccadilly Theatre for ten weeks only this October. The classic story of the rub in the American dream stars Wendell Pierce and Sharon D. Clarke in a fresh take on the action seen through the eyes of an African American family.

Set in 1940s Brooklyn, Death of a Salesman is the story of Willy Loman, an ageing salesman whose fragile grasp on reality is slipping away. Having worked hard all his life, proud of his ability to sell anything to anyone and to provide for his family, his dreams of becoming a self-made man who makes it big have amounted to nothing and he is cracking under the strain.

Now he finds himself at the end of his career and at the end of his rope. He's lost his job, the respect of his sons Biff and Happy, his self-worth and his hope, with tragic consequences. Seventy years on from its 1949 publication, this play resonates and devastates afresh.
