Overview

Oscar-nominated American actress Amy Adams makes her West End debut in Jeremy Herrin's revival of Tennessee Williams' heart-rending 1944 masterpiece The Glass Menagerie as it opens in May for a limited season. Completing the cast will be Paul Hilton, Tom Glynn-Carney, Lizzie Annis and Victor Alli.

Set in St. Louis in the 1930's, Tom Wingfield tells the story - as he remembers it - of the strained relationship between himself, his aging and overbearing mother Amanda and his cripplingly shy elder sister Laura who is lost in a world of her own.

Abandoned by her husband, faded Southern Belle Amanda is struggling to raise her two children in a dingy apartment and is surviving on fragile hopes and dreams for their future. Aspiring poet Tom must support the family and help find a husband for his sister, but he is torn between his obligations and his intense desire to break away and leave behind his job at a shoe warehouse and his oppressive life at home.
