Music, dance, theatre, choreography or performance art? Is it all of the above, or none of them? Well, both are sort of right...in a way. Confused? Read on...
Originating as a dance troupe in Brighton in 1991, Stomp is currently in its eighth year in London and is one of the West End’s most unique offerings. There's no speech, no dialogue, not even a plot. This multi-award winning show has a universal language of rhythm, theatre, comedy and dance. Stomp in an ingenious mix of movement, bodies, objects, sounds - even abstract ideas. The cast of eight performers use everything from Zippo lighters, plastic bags, bin lids and even the kitchen sink to hammer out an explosively feel good rhythm.
So why go and see STOMP? Well, have you ever composed a symphony using only matchbooks as instruments? Or created a dance routine based around sweeping? You may have done this a little, but get a group of rhythmically gifted, extremely coordinated bodies with definitive personalities, and you have the makings for Stomp.
