Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Lyndhurst star in Trevor Nunn’s melancholic production of William Shakespeare’s play, The Tempest.

The sorcerer Prospero, the usurped rightful Duke of Milan, is marooned and left to die on a remote barren island by his jealous brother, Antonio. There he uses his magical powers to command spirits and manipulate the elements in order to capture his enemies and exact his revenge. When Antonio travels close to the island on a passing ship, Prospero raises a tempest to run the ship aground. With the survivors of the wreck seeking salvation, Prospero manipulates the course of their path, drawing them closer to his final judgement.

Shakespeare's magical final play about reconciliation - his poignant farewell to the stage - combines love, tragedy and comedy in equal measure.
