Maureen Lipman stars in Glorious!, Peter Quilter's hilarious and heart-warming new comedy based on the true story of eccentric American, Florence Foster Jenkins.
In 1940s New York, Florence Foster Jenkins was a delightful diva who was dubbed the world’s worst singer. An enthusiastic soprano whose pitch was far from perfect, she was the performer that everyone demanded to see live. She had little sense of rhythm, a limited range and was virtually incapable of sustaining a note, yet she had an unshakeable conviction about her own singing talent.
The play is spun from Florence’s charity recitals and extravagant balls, through to her bizarre recording sessions and an ultimate one night only concert at the massive Carnegie Hall in 1944, which was sold out months in advance.
