Following its phenomenal success in the West End throughout 2004, R C Sheriff's classic 1920s anti-war play Journey's End returns to the New Ambassadors Theatre from October 2005.
Set in the British trenches of St Quintin during the First World War, Journey's End bitterly depicts a group of British officers on the front line in France as they prepare to face their enemy. Public school boy Raleigh is the newest arrival to join the beleaguered company, led by his one-time friend and cricketing hero Captain Stanhope, who, he discovers, has changed dramatically.
Based on the author's own experience of the front and life in the trenches, it celebrates humour and courage in the face of certain tragedy and remains an important reminder of the horrors of war and the real, unromanticised heroes who fought for it.
Please note that as the play is set in the trenches during the First World War there are many loud explosions and artillery noises during the course of the play.
