The Royal Yacht Britannia is one of the world's most famous ships. Launched at John Brown's Shipyard in Clydebank in 1953, the Royal Yacht proudly served the Queen and country for forty-four years. During that time Britannia carried The Queen and the Royal Family on 968 official voyages, from the remotest regions of the South Seas to the deepest divides of Antarctica.
Britannia has moved to her final berth at Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh's stylish waterfront retail and leisure development. Before you step on board, you can view displays and historic photographs detailing Britannia’s fascinating past at the Visitor Centre. The tour of Britannia is self led with the aid of an audio handset. This is available in 21 different languages and is included in the price of admission, allowing the visitor to take the tour at their own pace.
The captivating tour takes you round five decks at a leisurely pace and is a rare glimpse into the public and private lives of the British Royal Family. From Sir Winston Churchill to Boris Yeltsin and Rajiv Gandhi to Nelson Mandela, some of the world’s most influential people were welcomed on board. Tour highlights include the State Drawing Room, The Queen’s Bedroom, the Sun Lounge, the Officers’ Wardroom and the Admiral’s cabin. Visitors will also have a chance to see the working side of the ship, from the once sweltering heat of the laundry to the crew’s densely packed quarters.
