Kings Speech to transfer to West End following UK tour?

7th November 2011

RSC’s Artistic Director, Adrian Noble’s theatrical version of the Oscar and BAFTA winning film, the King’s Speech, is set to launch a UK tour from February 2012 fuelling rumours that a West End run will follow.

The tour is set to premier at Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre before travelling to Nottingham, Bath, Brighton, Richmond and Newcastle. Accomplished theatre actor Charles Edward, who recently received rave reviews for the role of Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing at The Globe, will take the role of King George VI as portrayed by Colin Firth in the silver screen version. Jonathan Hyde will star as maverick speech therapist Lionel Logue.

Edward is arguably best known for playing Richard Hannay in the stage adaptation of The 39 Steps which he portrayed on both Broadway and in the West End. Perhaps the same path might lay in store with The King’s Speech?
